Charity Team Building Activities & Events

Charity team building turns a normal team challenge into something that gives back: your team takes on a hands-on build and, at the end, a real bike, sleep pod or meal goes out to a good cause. These charity and CSR events bond the team and give your business a genuine corporate social responsibility result it can report on.

Funktion Events has run more than 10,000 team building events since 2007, and our event team comes to you anywhere in the UK to set up and run the day. Some builds go to a fixed partner, like the Sleep Pod charity; for the rest we help you pick a cause close to your team.

Charity & CSR Team Building Activities

Each one runs for groups of a dozen up to several hundred and ends with a finished bike, sleep pod, meal or bird box going out to a good cause. Here is what teams take on with us:

Swipe to see what you do and the cause →

Activity What you do Cause it supports
Charity Bike Build Earn the parts, build and decorate real bikes, then donate them Children and families who need transport
Charity Sleep Pod Build Learn the mission, then build insulated sleep pods together People sleeping rough, via the Sleep Pod charity
Charity Cook Off for Good Cook a proper meal as a team that is then donated Food banks and food poverty
Charity Furniture Restoration Restore and upcycle donated furniture Community charities and families in need
Skateboard Building Build and finish skateboards to donate Youth and children's charities
Beehive & Bird Box Making Build bee hotels and bird boxes, installed outdoors Environment, wildlife and ESG goals

Whatever you build leaves with the cause. The bikes are safety-checked by an engineer and go to your chosen charity the same day, and you are welcome to join the handover; the sleep pods go to people sleeping rough straight after the event.

Not seeing the cause or format you had in mind? Tell us who you want to help and we will build the day around it, from the charity you already support to a one-off idea we have never run before.

Sustainability & Green Team Building

Giving back does not always mean a cheque. Some of our most popular CSR days are green ones: teams build bee hotels and bird boxes that are installed outdoors to house real pollinators and nesting birds. These sustainability and eco team building days suit a business with a green or ESG commitment, because the team leaves something living behind rather than landfill, and something they can point to months later.

Why Choose a Charity Team Building Event?

Charity and CSR team building does three jobs in one afternoon. The team bonds the way it would on any away day, your business gets a real, reportable contribution to its corporate social responsibility goals, and people go home having done something genuinely worthwhile. That is why corporate charity events tend to land hard: the win is a child getting a bike or a family getting a hot meal, so nobody has to be told it mattered.

They also fit modern teams. Because everything runs from your office or a nearby venue and ends with a finished result handed over, team building for charity works as well for a remote or hybrid team meeting up for the day as it does for a full department, and it gives you a story worth putting on your website and your ESG report. More and more of the businesses we work with are B Corp certified or working towards it, and a charity team day is a visible, reportable way to act on the community and staff commitments that come with it.

Izzie - Corporate Event Manager

“On the charity days you see people who barely speak in meetings taking charge of a build, because there is something real at the end of it. Tell me the cause you care about, or let me suggest one, and I'll match it to the right activity and sort a venue if you need it. You get your team day, and a bike or a hot meal reaches someone who needed it.”

How to Choose a Charity Team Building Activity

Start with what you want the team to walk away having made:

  • Something that changes a life: the Charity Bike Build or Charity Sleep Pod Build.
  • A meal for someone who needs it: the Charity Cook Off for Good.
  • Something creative and lasting: Charity Furniture Restoration or Skateboard Building.
  • A green, sustainability-led day: Beehive & Bird Box Making.

Tell us your group size, your date and the cause you want to back, and we will match the right build and organise everything from the venue to the handover.

Charity Team Building FAQs

Charity team building activities combine a normal team challenge with a real charitable result. Your team builds something tangible, such as bikes, sleep pods, care packages or restored furniture, that is then donated to a good cause. It bonds the team and contributes to your company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
Yes. If your business already partners with a charity, we build the day around it and send the finished bikes, pods or packages there. If not, we help you pick a suitable cause, usually one local to your team. Just tell us the kind of cause you want to support.
They do. Every activity ends with a real donation, so a charity or sustainability team building day gives you a concrete, reportable contribution to your corporate social responsibility strategy alongside the team development. It is a common reason companies pick a charity day for their next event.
Most charity builds run happily in your own office or meeting room, and our team brings everything the activity needs. If you would rather be off-site or need more space, our free venue finding service sources the right space for your group size and city at no extra cost.
It depends on the activity, your group size, the venue and the cause you are supporting. Send us your numbers and date and we will come back with a clear, no-obligation quote, usually within 30 minutes in working hours.
Most charity builds run for about two to three hours. A charity bike build usually takes two to three hours and a sleep-pod build around two to two and a half, so they slot neatly into a half day, an away day or the afternoon of a conference. We can flex the timing to fit your agenda and group size.
Everything your team makes goes to the cause. Bikes are safety-checked and handed to your chosen charity the same day, and you can attend the handover. Sleep pods go to people sleeping rough after the event, and food, furniture and other builds go to the charity or community group you are supporting.
