Team Building Treasure Hunts & Scavenger Hunts

A treasure hunt team building event sends your team out across a city or venue to crack clues, unlock GPS challenges and race a live leaderboard. It is one of the most-booked team building formats we run: our Smartphone Urban Treasure Hunt is booked more often than almost any other activity on our roster.

Funktion Events has run more than 10,000 team building events since 2007, and we run treasure hunts and scavenger hunts in any UK city or at your own venue. Pick a self-run smartphone app for a great-value day, or have one of our event managers run it on the day, from £16 per person.

Team Building Scavenger Hunts

A team building scavenger hunt works like our treasure hunts but leans into collecting: teams photograph, film and complete set tasks against the clock rather than only following a route. Every hunt is built around soft skills, so your team is problem-solving, communicating and dividing up the work without clocking that it is team building. The Ultimate Treasure Hunt is our most popular team scavenger hunt, with GPS hotspots to find and a live leaderboard to chase, from £16 per person.

GPS Treasure Hunts, Run in Any City

Our GPS treasure hunts use a smartphone app to guide teams between digital hotspots across a real city, with a live map showing where every team is and a leaderboard updating in real time. There is no kit to carry and nothing to print: teams play on their own smartphones, or on iPads we can provide, so the same hunt runs in London, Manchester, Glasgow or any town you choose. It is the format most companies pick when they want everyone out exploring the city, without the logistics of a physical course.

Why Choose a Corporate Treasure Hunt?

A corporate treasure hunt gets the whole team moving, talking and competing in the same afternoon, which is why it is one of the formats companies come back to. It suits mixed groups because nobody needs to be sporty or outgoing to take part: everyone contributes something, whether that is local knowledge, quick thinking or the nerve to do the daft challenge. And because it runs on phones in a real city, it doubles as a social, so most teams finish in a pub or bar with the leaderboard settled and plenty to talk about.

It also flexes to the occasion. The same format works as the energiser slot in a conference, the activity half of an away day, or a full Christmas social, and it scales from one small team to a whole department split across the city. That range is why treasure hunts are one of the formats teams ask for by name.

Izzie - Corporate Event Manager

“On a treasure hunt you get the quiet ones coming alive, because someone always turns out to know the back streets or the answer nobody else has. Tell me your city, your numbers and whether you want it self-run or fully managed, and I'll pick the right hunt and sort the route. You get everyone out of the office, a bit of competition, and usually a drink at the end.”

Treasure Hunt Team Building FAQs

A treasure hunt team building event sends colleagues out in small teams to solve clues, complete challenges and unlock GPS hotspots across a city or venue, usually racing a live leaderboard. It builds communication, problem-solving and a bit of friendly competition, and most teams finish in a nearby pub or bar. Ours run for about 90 to 120 minutes.
They overlap. A treasure hunt follows a route of clues and GPS hotspots to a finish, while a scavenger hunt focuses on collecting: photographing, filming and completing set tasks against the clock. Most of our hunts blend both, so teams follow a route and rack up points for challenges along the way.
Anywhere in the UK. Because the hunts run on a smartphone app, we can set one up in any city or town, from London and Manchester to Glasgow, or around your own venue or office. We build the route to your chosen location and can travel to you for a fully managed event.
Most run for about 90 to 120 minutes, which fits neatly into a half day, the activity slot of an away day or the afternoon of a conference. We can flex the length to suit your agenda and group size.
Anything from a single team of a dozen up to several hundred people split across many teams. The app-based hunts scale easily, so they suit both a small department and a full company day.
Both. You can run the hunt yourselves for a great-value day, starting whenever you like, or have one of our event managers set it up and run it on the day. It plays on your team's own smartphones, or on iPads we can provide, and we help you decide which format suits your group and budget.
Our team building treasure hunts start from £16 per person, with the final price depending on the hunt, your group size and whether you want it self-run or managed. Send us your numbers and date and we will come back with a clear quote, usually within 30 minutes in working hours.
