UK-bookable activities, ordered by broad appeal. After something wilder? The biggest adventure stag weekends are abroad, see the European section below.

  1. Ghyll Scrambling

Climbing up streams and leaping into pools in the Lake District, the hero day of a UK adventure stag weekend. About as wild and wet as it gets.

  2. Quad Biking

Powerful quads let loose on an off-road course with instructors on hand. The most universal adventure pick: a real hit of adrenaline, no skill needed, and you do not have to be fit to have a go.

  3. Off Road Buggies

Two-seater buggies flat out around a rough course. More power and a lot more competition than the quads, so it suits the lads who want to race each other.

  4. White Water Rafting

Paddle and battle down the rapids as a team. The one that gets everyone shouting and soaked.

  5. Paintballing

From £15pp, the best-value adrenaline day going. Full kit, wooded courses and open season on the stag.

  6. Kayaking

Solo kayaks on open water, more hands-on than a canoe and a real Lake District adventure.

  7. Clay Pigeon Shooting

Shotguns, one-to-one tuition and a countryside setting. Suits every ability and goes down especially well with mixed-age stag groups, the older guys love it.

  8. Combat Archery

Dodgeball meets archery with foam-tipped arrows. Competitive, indoors and weatherproof, so it runs whatever the forecast does.

  9. Canoeing

Open canoes across the Lakes, a calmer, sociable paddle, easy for anyone to manage, that soaks up the scenery.

  10. High Ropes Course

Tree-top obstacles, climbing and abseiling in full safety kit. A proper challenge for a stag group that fancies testing its nerve, the stag included.

How to Plan an Adventure Stag Do

The strongest adventure stag weekends are built around the stag and the lads, not the wildest activity on the list. Here is what our stag do planners weigh up first when a stag group comes to us.

Check fitness and phobias first

This is the one that catches best men out. Before you book the stag onto a high ropes course or a gorge scramble, find out who is up for what. We have seen blokes terrified of heights end up on an abseil, and it is no fun for anyone. Quad biking, clay shooting and combat archery suit every fitness level, so they are safe bets for a mixed stag group.

Build the weekend around one big activity

Pick one standout activity the whole stag group does together. The ones that land are the ones that push you a bit out of your comfort zone. Gorge scrambling in the Lakes is the classic: a genuine challenge, a real sense of having earned it, and the fastest way to pull together a group where half of them have never met.

Do it in the day, then pile into a country pub afterwards for a few well-earned craft ales, the Lakes are famous for them. That is the kind of weekend the lads still talk about years later, and it is why the best of an adventure stag do happens out in the countryside, not the city centre.

Decide where to base the group

The thing most stag groups overlook: the best activity sites and water sports meeting points are usually out in the countryside, so a remote bunkhouse or cottage puts you close to the action but a long way from a bar. There are two ways to play it.

Base out in the wild, in the Lakes or the Welsh hills, for total immersion and a country pub to finish. Or base in a city centre hotel for the nightlife and the comfort, travel 45 minutes to an hour out to the activity, do it all day, then head back to the bars in the evening.

A stag group that wants a big night out usually takes the city base; one set on the outdoors being the whole weekend stays out in it. Either way, we will give you the realistic travel times before you book.

The weather is part of it

Adventure is an outdoor pursuit, and most of it runs rain or shine, so do not let the forecast put you off. The one thing that counts is kit: get the lads to pack clothing and footwear for the conditions and they will have a great day whatever the sky does.

Outdoor stag do activities run from March to October in smaller, fixed sessions, so target June to August if you want the best of the weather, with combat archery or indoor karting there if you fancy one guaranteed-dry option.

Eleanor - Group Booking Specialist

“An adventure stag do doesn’t have to mean an army assault course. We match the activity to the group, from quad biking and rafting to a full off-road day, so everyone’s in, whatever their fitness.”

Best UK Adventure Stag Destinations

An adventure stag weekend in the UK is as much about where you go as what you do. These are the UK adventure stag bases that pack the most in.

Lake District

The classic UK adventure base. Ghyll scrambling, gorge walking, climbing and rafting on the doorstep, with the scenery to match. The pick for a stag group that wants a full-on outdoors weekend.

Bristol

Easy to reach and loaded with action: off-road buggies, paintball and a huge activity range, plus a city centre for the night out. A strong all-rounder for an adventure weekend.

Bournemouth

Coast and countryside in one. Off-road buggies, clay shooting and assault rifles by day, beach and bars by night.

Cardiff

The gateway to Welsh adventure, with the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia within reach for gorge walking and coasteering, and a cracking night out in the city.

Heading for the mountains or the Highlands? Browse all our stag do destinations to see what runs where.

Adventure Stag Weekends Abroad

Some of the biggest adventure stag weekends are abroad, where the budgets stretch further and the activities go up a gear. Prague is the adventure capital, with white water rafting, tank driving and full shooting ranges. Krakow adds off-road 4x4 driving and deluxe paintball, and Budapest has bobsledding alongside its nightlife.

The activity sites are often outside the city, so most of our European adventure activities come with an English-speaking guide and return transfers to and from the site, which means no wrestling with foreign transport and no risk of getting lost. Each city runs a different line-up, so browse our stag do destinations to see what is on where.

Why Book Your Adventure Stag Do With Funktion Events

You pick the activities, we book the lot. Tell us the stag group, the dates and the city, and your planner sorts the suppliers, timings and transport so the day runs without a hitch.

  • We steer the lads away from anything that won't suit them, so nobody, the stag included, ends up dreading it.
  • Everyone pays their own share online, so the best man is not stuck collecting the money.
  • On packages, book 11 and the 12th place comes free.
  • ABTA-bonded (Y6501), with licensed, insured and vetted activity suppliers.

Ready to sort it? Build your own stag do online, or call the team on 0161 341 0052 and we will sort the lot.

Adventure Stag Do FAQs

In the UK, quad biking, off-road buggies, paintballing, white water rafting, clay pigeon shooting and combat archery are the activities stag groups book most. Abroad, the standouts are tank driving and live firing ranges in Prague and off-road 4x4 in Krakow. Pick one big activity and build the stag weekend around it.
Yes, as long as you choose well. Quad biking, clay pigeon shooting and combat archery are open to all abilities and need no experience. The ones to think twice about for a mixed stag group are the assault courses and gorge scrambles. Tell us who is coming and we will point you to the ones that suit everybody.
Both work, for different things. The UK is best for off-road driving and countryside days out, with the Lake District, Bristol, Bournemouth and Cardiff all strong. Abroad wins for the big-ticket stuff, tank driving, firing ranges and serious white water, with Prague and Krakow leading the way.
Most of them do. Gorge scrambling, rafting, quad biking and the rest are outdoor activities by nature, so a bit of weather comes with the territory, and it is half the fun. As long as you pack clothing and footwear suited to the conditions, you are good to go. This is an adventure stag do, after all, the weather is part of it, not something to dodge.
Three to six months for summer weekends. Outdoor adventure activities run from March to October in smaller, fixed sessions, so the good slots go early, especially over bank holidays. Off-peak, six to eight weeks is usually enough.
