Places to Eat in the Lake District

Places to Eat in the Lake District

It’s difficult to eat your way around the whole of the Lake District in just one hen weekend, so we’ve collected a few hidden gems to try in all the local towns. From Keswick down to Windermere and everything in the middle, there’s some unmissable eateries, restaurants and cafes around this region of outstanding natural beauty. Heavily focused on local produce and ingredients, you’ll find some unique places to eat in the Lake District that might be the reason you come back!

To kick things off, we have to mention L’Enclume in Grange-over-Sands. It might be a big journey if you’re staying at the tip of the Lakes, but this upscale dining restaurant is well worth the mileage. The small and sweet restaurant comes with a hefty price tag, so if you’re looking for somewhere special to eat this should be your number one go to. For something more central to the region, head to Keswick for Fellback restaurant. Locally sourced and even distilling their own spirits, this modern-style eatery is a true taste of the Lake District.

You’ve got your fine dining and then you’ve got your local, but what about a delicious in between? We think you can’t go wrong with pizza – especially when feeding a huge group of hungry hens! For easy and well-priced Italian cuisine, Rastelli’s Pizzeria in Windermere is your go to. If all else fails, we say follow the sheep! Multi Award winning and quirky to it’s core, The Crafty Baa Pub is a hit with locals and travellers alike. Here, you’ll find pub grub reimagined, unique themed rooms and genius craft beers and gins.

Shops, Shops, Shops in the Lake District

Shops, Shops, Shops

It’s true that the Lake District is very spaced out, but if you’ve made time to do a spot of shopping in between your activities then there’s plenty of places to spend, spend, spend! From speciality shops to chain brands and high street favourites, you can find everything you need across the little towns in the Lakes.

Packhorse Court in the Lake District

The Lake District region is jam-packed with independent shops to fill your boots with unique finds and goodies. A hub for all things individual is Packhorse court, which is basically a big market built on an old-style courtyard. From cheese shops to quality womenswear that you won’t find anywhere else, you can explore this beautiful court in Keswick for hours. Just like all shopping spaces in the Lakes, they also feature a variety of shops selling outdoor goods and wear – so don’t worry if you forget your hiking boots!

Westmorland Shopping Centre in the Lake District

If you’re looking for familiar faces rather than independent vendors, your best to head over to Westmorland shopping centre. Situated in the town of Kendal, this popular centre houses a bunch of big brands from clothing to phone shops and a few café’s in between. Whether you’ve forgotten your lipstick or you need a new pair of tights, this sizeable shopping centre will have you covered for all your beauty and clothing needs throughout your stay in the Lake District.

Nightlife Guide to The Lake District for Hen Nights

This mountainous region is known for being a popular holiday destination, but that doesn’t mean that the nightlife is bad. The nightlife at the Lake District is thriving with energy, with various clubs, pubs and bars for you to choose from.

Keswick Pubs

Keswick is in the north west of the Lake District and is a market town but has some of the best nightclubs, bars and pubs around that will leave you and the girls partying until the sun comes up.

The Loft Nightclub claims to be Keswick’s premier nightclub and stays open until the early hours of the morning. They offer a large selection of drinks ranging from cocktails, to spirits to ales and shots. They have VIP areas if you want to make the celebrations extra special, making this venue perfect for the hens who love to party.

Cockermouth is a picturesque market town full of traditional pubs and perfect for a bar crawl due to the pubs being within walking distance of each other, making life a little easier for the hens who love to wear a pair of heels.

A pub that is always bursting with life is the Black Bull Inn. This low beamed pub is very cosy and popular amongst the locals due to their selection of real ale and occasional live music. For when the weather is warm, they have their own beer garden, making it a good place to go day drinking on a hen do.

Once you’ve finished in the Black Bull Inn why not head a few doors down and visit the Brown Cow. This historic bar serves traditional pub beverages alongside some pub grub. If you are fancying a pub quiz to keep the girls entertained, then head over to the Brown Cow on a Tuesday for their quiz at 8pm.

Penrith Pubs

Accessible right off the motorway, as soon as you enter Penrith you get to see its historic buildings and what nightlife is has to offer. If traditional pubs are up your street, then Penrith will be like heaven for you.

The Beehive Inn is a family run pub that prides themselves in their relaxed atmosphere and delicious pub grub. They have a large beer garden which is perfect for hens who like to have a drink (or two) in the day to start the celebrations off early! With a wide selection of drinks to choose from, including real ale, your hens will be spoilt for choice.

Kendal Nightlife

To the south of the Lake District, Kendal isn’t just your average and ordinary market town. It is bursting with culture and energy due to the many events and festivals that take place there throughout the year.

If you are after a contemporary style pub then Romney’s would be perfect for you. This pub has just been recently renovated and prides itself in its delicious and varied menu and wide variety of drinks, including real ale.

Visit Kendal’s oldest surviving Inn at Ye Old Fleece Inn which has recently reopened as a gastropub. They claim to provide outstanding hospitality, meaning that you and the hens won’t be disappointed with your celebrations at Ye Old Fleece Inn. Or, Smokies Bar is the opposite with modern décor and plenty of gin for the hen night.

If you’ve not guessed already, you definitely won’t be stuck for things to do in the Lake District. On top of just relaxing and taking some time off, it’s a unique place to celebrate – especially for any bride to be’s who love being outdoors. It’s the UK’s biggest national park and boasts an impressive 16 official lakes to marvel at, have a go on and relax beside. No to mention, with the Lake District being so large there’s plenty to discover by pure accident. Our best advice is to drive around, exploring the parks nooks and crannies to pave your own last night of freedom and create the perfect hen weekend for your budding bride.

Getting Around Lake District on a Hen Do

Getting Around Lake District

If not travelling by car, rail is probably your best option. The train travels along the main west coast line. There are also plenty of coach and bus routes that are operated by stagecoach, but we would recommend you book to avoid disappointment.

When arriving at the lake District, which it being in such a rural location, public transport can be an issue. So, if you don’t plan on using a car, walking will become a big part of your weekend or you may even want to hire bikes.
