Places to Eat in the Lake District

Places to Eat in the Lake District

Narrowing down the best places to eat in the Lake District can be tricky, as the towns and eateries in this region are scattered. More often than not if people are heading to the Lakes, it means they’re willing to explore either by car, bus or public transport. To make the most of the restaurants and hidden café’s here, you’ll need to make the journey too!

When you’re looking for places to eat, you can’t go wrong with an award-winning pub can you? After a long day outdoors making the most of the views, treat yourself at The Crafty Baa Pub in Windermere. With an AA Award under their belt as well as many others, you can rest assured you’ll be getting some good, local pub grub with the lads. If you’re further North in Keswick, you might want to fill your stomachs in Fellpack. This venue distils the spirits of the Lakes and specialises in traditional “fell-pots”.

Locally-sources and seasonal are common in the Lake District countryside, but no one does it quite like L’Enclume. This fine dining establishment will blow your socks off with flavour and is found in Grange-over-Sands for some fancy, slightly more expensive grub. For the opposite of fine dining, Baha is the perfect spot for groups! If tasty street food, live music and tasty cocktails are your thing, this is the place for you.

Nightlife Guide to the Lake District Stag Weekends

Because the Lake District is so big and mighty, it can be difficult to get a grasp on where to go for a few bevs on the night out. There’s a few different towns throughout the area to choose from, depending on your groom to be’s tastes of course.

Keswick

For the feel of a big city night out without the high prices and busy city life, Keswick is your best bet. From Bank Street right the way round to St John’s Street and Lake Road you will find an abundance of pubs, real ales, cask ales you name it! This little town packs a punch on the nightlife scene, mainly because it’s home to The Loft Nightclub. If you’re looking for somewhere with a party atmosphere rather than a traditional pub, this nightclub late bar offers an extensive drinks menu and reserved areas if you want to make the night that little more special.

On the total opposite side of the spectrum,

Cockermouth

However, you’re imagining a night in the Lake District, that’s probably what you’ll find in picturesque Cockermouth. cask ale pubs, interesting taverns and ancient inns await you all down main street. After a jam-packed day of action and adventure activities, then a few pints is exactly what you need. A hotspot for Cockermouth is the Black Bull Inn, which features low beams and open arms for any weary traveller around.

Just down the road from the Bull Inn is the ever-popular Brown Cow, which is great for a combo of good pub grub and proper ales if that’s your type of thing. Top tip – they have a wicked pub quiz that would be perfect to start the night off on a funny foot!

Penrith

This little town just outside the national park is brimming with history, mainly history within the pubs which is convenient for you guys! The Board & Elbow is one of Penrith’s best  pubs, with reviews that will blow your socks off just for a little pub. Go for some grub, have some beers or get a round of shots in, anything goes here.

If you’re a fan of a family run boozer, The Beehive Inn is a great shout for a group of guys just wanted a few chilled drinks. Better still, they have a massive beer garden that we think is perfect for a bit of day drinking if that’s your thing.

Kendal

You might be surprised to see how much Kendal has to offer, and it’s probably one of the more popular towns to head to after a day filled with water sports and ghyll scrambling around the Lakes. While you’re here, visit Kendal’s oldest surviving pub Ye Old Fleece Inn for a thoroughly authentic pint in the English countryside. For something more modern (and stocked with gin), head over to Smokies Bar and enjoy the younger vibe there.

Reasons to Visit the Lake District on a Stag Night

Reasons to Visit

The Views

Probably the most obvious but we still had to mention how epic the views are. There’s no place quite like the Lake District, making it a trip to remember!

Outdoor Activities

We can safely say that you won’t find more outdoor fun anywhere else but the Lakes. From water sports to land experiences, the region has it all.

Ale Trail

Some of the best (and oldest) pubs and micro-breweries can be found all around the Lakes, and they make for the greatest Ale Trail in the UK.

Fresh Air

If you’re usually city boys, getting out in the countryside will do you some good. Plus, the pure air does wonders when trying to fix a brutal hangover.

Fit for All Ages

Especially important if you’re planning a family-orientated party, everyone can enjoy the Lakes no matter what age.

Fantastic Food

Natural, local ingredients are born and bred in the Lake District, and you won’t find pub grub better than the Lakes.

World Heritage Status

After a long wait, the Lake District became an official World Heritage Site because of its outstanding beauty and popularity with tourists.

All the Water!

Across this region you can find 16 official bodies of water, with places like Bassenthwaite in Keswick being of high interest for swimming in the wild and open.

More Things to do in the Lake District on a Stag Weekend

More Things to Do

If you’re headed to the region of natural beauty for a long-stay, you might need more than a few cheeky water sports to keep you entertained. For one, the niche museums dotted around this region are a pretty interesting visit. For a lick of literary history, there’s the Words By the Water festival once a year and places like Ullswater to visit and get inspired by poets of centuries past.

Another key reasons why the Lake District has always been so popular is that a lot of the best things to do and see here are completely free. You can have a busier weekend up in Cumbria than any city in the UK for a couple of pennies. For example, most of the tremendous walks with breathetaking views only cost a bit of exercise to enjoy.

Getting Around Lake District on a Stag Party

Getting Around the Lake District

If not driving, train Is probably your second best mode of transport here. The West Coast mainline connects to the east of the Lake District including London and Glasgow. There is also a direct train to Manchester. Once there, there are also plenty of local train line routes around the major towns including Grange-Over-Sands. There are also plenty of coach and bus routes that are operated by stagecoach and buses that run throughout the different towns and villages frequently.

The weekend was brilliant planned and executed by Jay, he had no end of patience with all questions and changes of mind! He thoroughly recommend the Ghyl scrambling which was a fantastic activity and something completely different. The hotel we stayed in was perfect for what we wanted with some of the friendliest staff around.

Genuinely this was excellent value for money and we would whole heartedly recommend Jay and his services
