What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair) and lasts for just over 2 weeks! Each year the 16 day party attracts over 6 million people. Vistawide say that “1.5 million gallons of beer, 200,000 pairs of pork sausage, and 480,000 spit-roasted chickens” are consumed during the celeb­ra­tions. Although Oktoberfest is held in Germany each year the festival is celebrated all around the world.

The History Behind Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest first started in 1810 with the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildbu­rghausen. Everyone was invited to celebrate in the fields around the front of the city gates. The festival was loved and talked about by so many that they decided to keep going with it the following year and has been going every year since!

When is Oktoberfest Celebrated?

Oktoberfest is usually celebrated from mid to late September and ends on the first Sunday in October. The celebration usually lasts between 16 and 18 days.

Where is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is held annually in Munich, Germany. But people all around the world host their own Oktoberfest to get involved in the celeb­ra­tions.

What Food Should You Have at Your Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is known for having a range of delicious food so you want to make sure you incorporate that aspect of the festival into your one at home. You can do a small selection of food or go all out with a giant feast. Here are a list of some food perfect for an Oktoberfest at home:

What Music Should You Listen to During Oktoberfest?
