It wouldn’t be a weekend without a whole lot of food and drink to keep your stomachs lined and your head fuzzy. Slovakia is renowned for its delicious foods, without having to add any weird, foreign ingredients that might make the average Brit go running. Its hearty cuisine is mainly based on meat and potatoes so you can’t really go wrong. Some of their authentic dishes are pork and dumplings and bryndzové halušky which are gnocchi-style potatos.

Once a meeting place for writers and artists, now it’s a place that is loved by locals and tourists alike. The food menu is just as big as the drinks menu, so you know it’s going to be a good time here!

A place where you can eat and enjoy the views of the city is Reštaurácia Hrad. Although a little more on the pricey side here you will be able to head on over to its terrace and enjoy views of the whole city. As well as a variety of Slovak specialities along with international dishes like hamburgers and pastas!

For your burgers and everything else head to FABRIKA the beer pub. This place is an extremely highly rated restaurant that can provide you with amazing beers, cocktails and late night food. Whatever you are after during the weekend, FABRIKA is a great place to start the night.

Every form of liquor, beer, cider, and everything in between is leaps and bounds cheaper than the UK and most cities in Europe. If you’re on a budget but still want to celebrate your last night of freedom in style, this is the place to be lads.

Pubs

There are plenty of pubs throughout Bratislava but most of them are around the same area. Which makes things a lot easier for you! If you head around the Michalska area, you will find some amazing pubs that are perfect for starting the night out. Very much like the UK, Bratislava has their own The Red Lion. And like most in the UK it’s a great place to go for some karaoke, sports and your beers.

Another great pub is the Dubliner Irish Pub, a place to go if you want to enjoy all things Irish. All the food, beer and atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from this little cosy tavern. Or why not start the night a little bit more relaxed with 17’s BAR. A microbrewery that has 10 different beers on tap, all containing different lagers, beers, ales and fruit beers. And for some cheap beers in a welcoming environment make sure you try out Black Dog.

If you are around the Old Town, you will find so many amazing Bratislava bars that are waiting for you to head inside and enjoy a drink or two. First up is Nu Spirit Bar, the venue that has been leading the underground bar scene for well over a decade. A bar that can provide you with all your wine needs is Wine Not!? A wine bar with the biggest selection of Slovak wines around. So if wine is your poison then this is the place to go. For an experience and a half, you should try out speakeasy bar Michalska Cocktail Room. There is a great selection of unique and classic cocktails that all the lads will love.

And what night out is complete without a trip to a nightclub? Luckily for you there are quite a few to choose from in Bratislava. No matter what type of night you are after you’ll be able to enjoy yourselves in a nightclub. One of the biggest and most exclusive nightclubs is The Club Bratislava. A huge nightclub that has events running throughout the week.

Fuga is another nightclub right in the centre of Bratislava. This nightclub offers you a variety of contemporary sounds and sound art. If you are wanting a night out that is like no other, it might be a good idea to head to Fuga to end the night. How to Get Around Bratislava?

Luckily if you are planning on staying around the Old Town you won’t need to make use of much public transport as everything you need is within working distance. Bratislava also has a pretty extensive bus, tram and trolleybus network that is extremely easy and affordable to use. You can always access a route map online and tickets cost between €0.70-1.20 for 15-60 minutes. If you plan on using the public transport for the duration of your stay, there is also passes you can buy for €6.90 – 8 for 24-72 hours.

If you want a bit of exercise or it’s a nice day, why not hire a bike from one of Bratislava’s many yellow bike hires docking stations? The bikes can be rented for 24 hours and you have to register online to be able to get one. It’s a great way to get around and see more of the city than you would have.
