Places to Eat in Krakow?

It’s been said that Krakow boasts more cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs per square metre than any other city in the whole world. Whether you believe that or not, what we do know is it is almost impossible to walk more than 50 metres without finding another restaurant or pub!

One place to try is Wierzynek - this restaurant rumours to have served numerous of celebrities over the years, from world leaders like Fidel Castro to Charles De Gaulle and fashion icons like Kate Moss. Spread out over four floors, this restaurant dates back to medieval times and is most famous for hosting the wedding celebrations for the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and Elizabeth of Pomerania in 1364!

Another fantastic city centre restaurant to explore is Starka. Situated in the Kazimierz district in the city centre (Krakow’s historic Jewish Quarter), this extremely popular restaurant is enjoyed by tourists and locals for its traditional Polish cuisine menu with specialities like spicy goulash soup and pierogi. Krakow doesn't just offer Polish cuisine, there's plenty of other foods you can indulge in - including fine dining. If you're after Mediterranean tastes than try Klimaty Południa Restaurant where you'll find a real working fire and cosy, welcoming atmosphere.

Local delicacies are easy to come by in this city. One of the traditional dishes you must try whilst in Krakow is Bigos, the Polish equivalent of Hunter’s Stew. This is traditionally a winter dish and is made in large batches from cabbage, leftover meat, onion, garlic and mushroom.

Aside from the longstanding tradition of vodka making, Poland has taken up a new brewing passion with craft beer and lager. More and more independent brewers and craft ale pubs are popping up all over the country, especially in cities like Krakow and Warsaw! Bars

Because of Poland’s low tax rate and lack of regulations on spirits, vodka is easily the most popular drink of choice. Krakow is no exception, and we think that you should head straight to one of the Old Town’s “Shot Bars” to experience some delicious flavoured vodka during your trip. One place to try is BaniaLuka. Known for its unbelievably cheap pints that can cost less than £1 and deliciously flavoured vodka shots that can cost even less, this is the ideal location to head to if you girls are looking to pre-drink at a local hotspot before a big night out.

Another brilliant place to check out some of Poland’s best flavoured vodka is the aptly-named Wodka Bar in the Old Town, located just a short walk away from St. Mary’s Basilica. One of the most popular drinking hotspots in the area, this bar boasts over 90 different kinds of flavoured vodka, with anything from caramel to coconut to choose from!

We all love a great cocktail, right? Well when you and the girls jet off to Krakow, this city has plenty of places to enjoy a cheeky martini or two! The first place we recommend checking out is Budda Cocktail Bar. Looking out onto the historic Old Town market square (Rynek Główny), this bar boasts a lovely beer garden area and front seating that makes for the perfect place to sit in the sun with a few drinks watching the crowds go by. As we’ve mentioned before, the student population in this city is teeming, meaning that the nightlife is as good as it comes… and Krakow’s nightclubs are no exception!

The biggest and arguably the liveliest place to consider is Prozak 2.0. Located in one of the oldest underground spaces anywhere in the city, this three-floor nightclub has hosted some of the best DJs in Poland and the rest of Europe and is a regular hotspot for techno and house music lovers and students alike.

How to Get Around Krakow?

Although Krakow doesn’t have an underground metro system like the capital Warsaw does, the city does operate an efficient above-ground tram system that runs from the early hours of the morning until 11pm. This is probably the fastest and most reliable way to get from one place to another in the city, as parking can be difficult to find in the city centre if you plan on hiring a car and many streets in the city centre do not allow regular car traffic.

Krakow also has a well-run bus network that covers the city centre and the suburbs. If you need to get somewhere that’s slightly out of reach of the tram network, then this is probably your second best choice in terms of efficiency and cost. However, when it comes to exploring all the popular tourist attractions, most are all within walking distance from each other! So if you plan your route properly, walking the majority of Krakow’s busiest areas will prove to be a great idea.
