What is a Prague Hen Party Like?

If you’re going to Europe, Prague is an easy win if you’re looking for a classic last night of freedom that all the girls can sink their teeth into. As well as being unbelievably stunning to look at, Prague is jam-packed full of incredible experiences to try, making it a hugely popular place for parties to visit. The capital of the Czech Republic is a great all-rounder, offering you and the girls quick flights, easy transport, an eclectic amount of Prague hen do activities and of course – killer nightlife that will make you stop in your heels!

With over 8.5 million visitors flocking to the city each year, the Czech capital is a widely popular destination for tourists coming from all over Europe and the rest of the world. Since the Velvet Revolution that broke off Czechoslovakia from Soviet rule and the Velvet Divorce divided the country into two, Prague has become one of the most important cities in the European Union. Dating back as far as the 7th century, the city has been home to Holy Roman emperors and was a significant city in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. If you want to explore the earliest records of this impressive city, then consider taking a trip to the Vyšehrad, an historic fort believed to be the first settlement that developed into modern-day Prague.

Whether you’re looking for a massive Prague weekend booze up, or you fancy a change of scenery somewhere beautiful, this European gem has it all. Over the years, ‘The Golden City’ has become a place where parties thrive (and we can definitely see why). From the minute you flick on your sunglasses, you and the girls can look forward to superstar treatment – even the airport transfers can be glamourous.

Places to Eat in Prague?

Places to Eat in Prague?

In between all of your Prague activities and ideas we are sure you will have worked up quite an appetite. Luckily for you there are so many amazing restaurants, bars and cafes that will serve up some amazing food for you girls to enjoy. First up is Bad Jeff’s Barbeque, here you can enjoy some signature dishes that Jeff himself has put together. With mouth-watering ribs, juicy meats and a great range of sides. We recommend the truffle mac and cheese! And if you’re all just wanting some pizza we suggest you head over to Johnny Pizza. Some say the pizza here is the best they have ever had, make sure you stop by if you’re around that area during the weekend.

With so many cuisines available all around Prague you won’t find it hard to find the perfect place to head with the girls. If you are wanting some Indian food try out the Taaj Palace Indian Restaurant. Here you can enjoy a variety of different dishes from all different regions of India. Of course at some point during the weekend you may want a find dining experience, if that’s the case head to V Zátiší. This restaurant alone is an experience you won’t forget!

Another amazing place to head for a variety of Mediterranean dishes is Sova Restaurant. Overall this place is based on traditional Czech food so if you want to try some delicious meals in the heart of Prague this place will be perfect. If you want to enjoy some modern Czech dishes where they play jazz evenings, then head over to Restaurant Mlýnec. The Vltava River flows under your street literally and you will have a view of the Charles Bridge as you tuck into your meals.

The Czech Republic isn’t known for its food and drink at a glance, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t have a try of some traditional eating while enjoying your celebrations. First things first – the alcohol. This city is full of drinking, and with it’s cheap prices it’s easy to see why it’s so popular for weekends. If you’re more of a hard liquor kind of gal, you won’t fall short of Absinthe in the main drinking district Zizkov. And for food, Smažený sýr (Fried Cheese) is an extremely popular street food snack that you have to try during your time. They’re usually served with chips! A common sweet treat is Palačinky which is a Czech pancake that looks like the French crepe.

Where to Shop in Prague?

Where to Shop in Prague?

It won’t be a shock to most that the capital of the Czech Republic has a ton of places to shopping and centres to visit for the crazy shopaholic in us. The city is, of course, massive! This means that the places you visit to browse and buy might vary depending on where you’re staying for the weekend. From the Smichov District to the heart of the city, Pankrac and smaller independent stores dotted around the city – there’s lots to consider.

Centrum Chodov Shopping Centre

One of the largest shopping ‘malls’ in the whole of the Czech Republic is Centrum Chodov shopping centre. With it’s only drawback being that’s it’s a little outside the city centre, this monster centre is the perfect place to spend the day breaking the bank. Here is where you’ll find your familiar faces and brans like Zara, H&M, Sephora, Marks & Spencers and the list goes on. You can also find classic Czech goods and snacks dispersed in between too if you want a little slice of culture while perusing the aisles and working up a hunger.

Novy Smichnov Shopping Centre

If you’d rather ger your shopping done right in the centre of the city, Novy Smichnov shopping mall is the answer to your shopping prayers. Situated in the Smichnov district, buses run to and from this centre plus it’s right next door to the metro station for convenience and easy travelling. Inside this three-storey building you can spend a laid-back afternoon dipping in and out of brands like Zara and Clinique. For a cheap and greasy bite to eat, the centre is also home to both a Mcdonalds and KFC – both great hangover cures!

Cerna Ruze

Cerna Ruze, translating to ‘The Black Rose’, is the city’s oldest shopping centre and built from beautiful architecture. Aside from the shops, this traditional mall is an experience in itself with flower boxes, rustic walls and the complete front of the Baroque building still intact. Stray away from the usual brands and find tiny independent stores, Bohemian crystals and jewellery and a few designer shops if you’re on the hunt for a special purchase.

Guide to Prague Nightlife for Hen Weekends

If there’s one thing people go to Prague for, it’s the unique nightlife scene and ridiculous opening hours of most bars and nightclubs. You won’t find it difficult to pull an all-nighter in Prague, with popular nightclubs like the Double Trouble club opening until 5am on the weekend. Luckily for you, Prague is efficient in the way the city is laid out. The capital splits itself into 3 main zones that have a different atmosphere, and nightlife can be found in Prague 1, Prague 2 and definitely Wenceslas Square. For a quick overview, check out our best bars in Prague article.

Prague 1 (The Old Town)

It may be called the Old Town, but the modern bars and electric clubs show a whole different side to this district of Prague! Known as Prague 1 to the locals, this area is jam-packed with uber cool bars, cocktails and clubs that are open until late. You could spend an entire day at Prague 1 from shopping to eating and dancing until you drop at the nightlife venues that line the streets. Kicking things off, for a venue that’s weird and wonderful try the Anonymous Bar in the heart of the district. This bar plays on the famous activist organisation and their masks, but still offer a cool and collected atmosphere with super tasty cocktails to sip on.

For a place with a bit more kick, you have to try at least one of Prague’s famous absinthe bars. Absintherie Jílská is maybe the most popular bar to date, serving not just neat absinthe but cocktails infused with the strong liqueur too. The interior is neon green and they also serve food to soak up the alcohol if need be. It’s not all heavy drinking and bitter concoctions in the Old Town, enjoy a more chilled vibe with unbeatable, freshly made cocktails at Hemingway Bar. This sophisticated establishment is a great choice to start the night classy, with dark wood furnishings and a one of a kind cocktail list.

When it comes to late night bars, Prague has endless options that you can’t possible fit into one tiny weekend (did someone say reunion?) For a traditional drinking experience, lively energy and a bar that’s open until 2am Bugsy’s Bar is your best friend. Easily accessible just a little way away from the river, everyone can fit into this underground watering hole. On the flip side, it might be nice to throw in a totally new experience instead! On one floor of the massive KARLOVY LÁZNĚ nightclub you’ll find the ultimate ice pub. Whip on a thermal jacket, put on some gloves and venture into the below freezing temperatures where even your glass is made completely of ice.

When you’re feeling a little tipsy and need to dance it off, it’s time to find a nightclub to finish the last night of freedom in style. As previously mentioned, the largest nightclub in Prague is KARLOVY LÁZNĚ with 5 floors of pure party. This venue is an adult playground inside and opens it’s does until as late as 5:30am on weekends. A bar/club that might take you by surprise from the outside is One Club. From the exterior this venue seems to be a low-key bar, but inside you’ll find booming music, eccentric performers and neon lights to blow your mind and entertain all the girls for the evening.

Clubbing doesn’t have to mean huge dancefloors and stifling music, it can also include exclusive lounges and moody lighting – just like DÉJÁVU Music Club. For flavoured gin with a kick and some extremely interesting décor is a smaller venue, this music club is the best fit for you in Prague. Last but by no means least, one of the most popular nightclubs in Prague and the Czech Republic as a whole is Golden Tree Nightclub. This venue has the perfect balance of quirky décor and personality with 3 floors of live DJ’s, dancers and performers for the best of both worlds.

Prague 2

The second district of Prague is significantly less busy but still has a fair few bars, pubs and clubs to sink your teeth into. You’ll find a noticeable difference in price from one section to the other, but compromise the energy and atmosphere of the Old Town for something more chilled. Lavish Lounge is the perfect example of this, featuring sloped ceilings in an underground tunnel. For a super small hole in the wall, have an authentic Prague experience at Klub 21. Popular with locals, this lounging bar is a great place to chat and toast to the bride to be.

In keeping with smaller, cosier venues, Bar Black Sheep on the outskirts of this district is a great cocktail bar for weird and wonderful concoctions. This curved venue is like a family away from home, and if you find yourself visiting more than once they might even remember your name! Once you’ve tried a few cocktails off the menu at Bar Black Sheep, finish the last night of freedom off at OX Club just around the corner. This nightclub is huge compared to the rest of the nightlife in Prague 2, and offers events and entertainment including live DJ sets all year round to make the weekend one to remember.

Wenceslas Square

For easy drinking, there’s no place quite like Wenceslas Square. Catch a bus, the metro or taxi straight to the square and then spend an evening stumbling to and from the different pubs and bars that litter this area. As well as being effortlessly beautiful, the square has continued to open bar doors to different venues that might catch your eye. For casual drinking and any beer-loving brides out there, Pivotéka is a totally unique beerhall that serves IPA’s and local brews you won’t find anywhere else. They sell themselves as the pinoeers of illegal beers – but don’t worry, it’s all legal and very tasty.

Not everyone loves a pint when they’re trying to get into the party spirit, and if you’d rather tantalise your taste buds with a delicious cocktail you’d prefer the Parlour cocktail bar. Boasting a relaxed atmosphere and expertly-made drinks, this venue is a great place to start the pre-drinks. One thing we would place a bet on is that every country around the world has at least one Irish bar. Prague is no exception, and Rocky O’Reilly’s is the popular choice for both locals and partygoers alike.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Prague Hen Party

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Prague Hen Party

Even though we are sure you will be packing your day full of amazing activities you will be pleased to know there are so many other things to do whilst you’re in this beautiful city. First off is the Old Town Square, this is probably the most iconic area of Prague with its bright orange roofed buildings. The Old Town Square is the most significant and oldest Square in Prague’s history! Another amazing historic sight to see is Prague Castle, dating back to the 9th century this amazing building is definitely something you have to see.

And of course going across the Vltava River is the famous Charles Bridge, dating back to the 14th century this iconic bridge can provide you with some stunning views across the capital. As well as all the iconic and historic things to visit to ensure you get the most out of your Prague hen party. There are also some unusual sights and unique things you have to see!

The first is the Prague Astronomical Clock, it’s a medieval clock that was installed in 1410! This makes it the third oldest in the world! It is an extremely intricate structure and you can find it just outside of Prague’s Old Town. And of course one of the most unusual architectural buildings around, the Dancing House. It’s the Nationale-Nederlanden building and was designed by an architect called Vlado Milunić. It’s an extremely picturesque building and won’t be like any other you’ve ever seen.

How to Get Around Prague?

How to Get Around Prague?

Since Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic it won’t come as a surprise how great it is when it comes to public transport. We would suggest the public transport as being your main choice due to how frequent it is and it is extremely hassle free to understand. What better way to get to and from your party activities then with some public transport in Prague? Overall the city has two main networks, the tram and the underground metro. Both of the lines run through the day and the night, both are extremely safe and cheap ways to make your way around the city.

Another great way to get around the city and see the sights is by water. The Vltava River runs right through the heart of Prague. If you head onto a river cruise you will be able to see some of the amazing sights of Prague and the famous landmarks in the city.
