From Christmas markets and hot chocolates to woodland walks, the festive season is the perfect time to get out and about and get in the Christmas mood… that’s if you’re brave enough to chance the cold weather! Seeming to start earlier each year, you can almost guarantee that something fun and festive will be going on as we get into the chillier months of the year. No matter what you decide to do, make sure you wrap up warm!
All the below activities will require some type of travelling, so why not secure your train tickets ahead of time with Trainline!

Even if you’ve never tried it before, Christmas ice skating can be a great laugh and a good way to try out a new potential hobby! Christmas ice rinks pop up in town centres and cities all over the UK, so you can almost guarantee that you’ll never be too far away from one.
Visit a Christmas Tree Farm
Whilst you can always buy a pre-cut Christmas tree from a seller, there’s nothing quite like taking a trip to a Christmas tree farm with your family or friends. Usually with more than plenty of choice, often you’ll get to pick your own Christmas tree, with most places offering a variety of tree types each with different needle shedding amounts. Just be sure not to make the rookie mistake of buying a tree that’s too big! Avoid this by measuring the space where you plan on putting your tree first. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly Christmas tree this year, then you’re in luck; Real Christmas trees produce slightly less carbon than fakes!

Go For a Winter Walk
Feel the crunch of the frosty ground beneath your feet and take in the sights and sounds of the festive season with a woodland walk. Free and fun for all, this is a great idea especially after a recent snowfall. There’s plenty of places to discover and explore outside our towns and cities that virtually transform into winter wonderlands around the festive period
Festive Food & Drink
Aside from the big Christmas night out, if you’re looking to do something fun and festive out of the cold then consider getting together for some fun food and drink. You could always go for a nice meal and a few drinks afterwards, or alternatively, take your celebrations to the next level with something a bit more interactive. For example, you could try your hand at pizza making or mixing your own drinks with a cocktail making class for groups.
Despite whether you love or loathe it, Christmas shopping in the UK is an essential part of the season. Shopping precincts and city centres across the country will be decked out with lights, festive music and all the Christmas decorations you can think of. Even if you’ve done the bulk of your present buying, there’s nothing wrong with having a browse to see what’s on offer!
