Treasure hunt by text messages… Now that’s unique and it also brings treasure hunting into the 21st Century.
This is a great activity for stag, birthday or hen weekends and a great way to see the main sites in a city in a fun and competitive way. Because the treasure hunt is by SMS the organiser can also be involved as they won’t know the answers.
The treasure hunt can start anywhere in the city, so you can start from your hotel, café or the pub, it’s totally up to you!
The clues are already in place so you just need to read the rules, split up into teams and get texting!
Our SMS Treasure hunt is a fully interactive activity which uses the latest text messaging technology to manage everything for you - no more scoring of answers or arguing over who has won; the state-of-the-art mobile technology takes care of this so that you can concentrate on the most important thing - winning!
The text messaging feature allows you to:
- Enter the game
- Create an amusing Team Name
- Request up to two lifelines for those clues you just cannot crack
- Verify your six digit Master Code
- Confirm your official finishing time so that you can see which team has won
- The SMS Treasure Hunt Team Packs will be posted to you approximately two weeks prior to your event and contain all the necessary elements for you to run the treasure hunt on the day - maps, clues, answer sheet, team tasks and instructions.
Format for the Day
- The stag, hen or birthday group will need to divide into small teams of between 3-5 participants.
- Each team will receive an official Team Pack
- There are six coloured zones to complete, with each zone containing up to five clues (pictured left). These clues are based around key landmarks and other features of a city centre and are set in no particular order, making route planning essential!
- Each of the six coloured zones reveals one digit of the six digits Master Code. Scratch these off from the scratch card Answer Sheet to reveal your final answer! Text this final answer and await your result……!
- If correct you will receive a message of congratulations and your confirmed finishing time. Get it wrong and you’ll have only one more chance!
- Once finished, you can meet up at your agreed venue (pub!!) and find out who was the first team to crack the code

Additional Notes
- We recommend that you allow 2 - 3 hours for the actual Treasure Hunt, with timings dependant on how competitive and fit you are, and how well you plan your route! These timings are given on the basis that all individuals within each team stick together throughout the hunt.
- If the individuals within each team split up then you will complete the hunt in 1 – 1 ½ hours so please ensure that all teams agree on the rules beforehand (this is explained in the ‘Rules & Procedures’ Handbook that goes out with your pack). Conversely, you will probably spend more than 3 hours completing the hunt if you intend to have some refreshment stops along the way!
- Group Sizes and Team Packs - Groups of 5-10 will receive 2 packs / Groups of 10-15 receive 3 packs / Groups of 15-20 receive 4 packs etc…
- Each team will need a fully charged mobile phone to use for texting.
- Everything is set up for you, so all you need is a fully charged mobile phone for each team and you are ready to go!
- The interactive text messaging requirement of this hunt is FREE (for UK phones in the UK) - so you will not receive any unwanted or extortionate charges. Mobile roaming charges may apply for overseas phones or non UK phones.
- Ensure the stag, hen or birthday group wear suitable footwear and clothing
